Passing the Loving Cup from Bedfordshire to Cambridgeshire!
Cumberland Lodge No.3858 visited Isaac Newton University Lodge (INUL) No.859 at the Masonic Hall in Bateman Street Cambridge. This was a night to remember as a lot was going on, Cumberland Lodge were not only invited to witness the installation of a new WM, but also had a mission concerning the University Scheme Loving Cup.
Cumberland and the Province of Bedfordshire were represented by W.Bro Bill Henderson, Prov Senior Grand Warden, W. Bro Brian Whitehead, W. Bro Clive Bowler, W. Bro. Gordon Henderson Bro. James Campbell and Bro. Efraim Ie who is our University scheme representative for Cumberland Lodge.
The Provincial Grand Master of Cambridgeshire R.W.Bro William C. M. Dastur was in attendance to participate and give us all encouraging words for INUL and their new WM at heart.
Cumberland Lodge completed its mission for the University Scheme, as we were there to pass on the David Kenneth Williamson Loving Cup (DKW Cup). This cup was presented to the scheme by the founding president of the university scheme – David Kenneth Williamson. This Cup aims to encourage inter-visiting between Universities Scheme Lodges and further its goals of fraternity and togetherness.
The cup previously visited Cambridge when it was relayed to Alma Mater Lodge during the ‘back with a bang’ 2021 miles hike across the nation, passing through all participating university scheme lodges.
Aside from this unique event, Cumberland Lodge has held this cup for the longest recorded time since February 2020 when we claimed it from Apollo lodge 357. This is the first time the cup has been passed into possession of INUL.
