Mercury Chapter Supports Medical Detection Dogs
On 3rd July, Mercury Chapter members David Castella and George Jerzy Staszak, who initiated the donation, presented a cheque for £200 to the charity Medical Detection Dogs.
Medical Detection Dogs is a remarkable charity that trains specially selected dogs to detect certain types of cancer by identifying subtle changes in a person’s scent, including changes in body odour etc.
The charity also trains highly skilled assistance dogs that support people with complex medical conditions.
These dogs can remind their owners to take essential medication and, in some cases, warn of an impending epileptic seizure up to 10 minutes before it occurs, giving the person valuable time to reach a place of safety.
Receiving no government funding, Medical Detection Dogs relies entirely on the generosity of donations and fundraising to continue its pioneering work.
The charity’s pioneering work continues to improve—and in many cases save—the lives of countless people, making it a truly worthy cause to support.
