Home is Where the Heart is!

On Sunday WBro Simon Barter and his wife, Lynn, attended an afternoon of entertainment at the Prince Michael of Kent Court Care Home in Watford where they were given a tour of the Home and the shown the wonderful work that they are carrying out supporting Masons, their families and relatives with full time care or short-term respite.

Simon was recently elected as the Bedfordshire Provincial Representative on the Association of Friends of Prince Michael of Kent Court Committee, following the sad passing of WBro Ralph Woolhead, and is looking to take an active role in supporting the home as a volunteer one day a month with Lynn.

In their own words – “Having seen the wonderful facilities that are provided by the Home, we could not resist the request for help as staffing is a real problem at the minute with a national shortage of care workers, we also hope to include our dog, Freddie, as a regular visitor, he has undergone training as a Therapy Dog and has been a big hit with all who have met him so far.

As a singer I have also been asked to provide an afternoon of entertainment for the residents over the summer, music plays such a big part in people’s memory and is often some of the last recollections that people have as they get older”.

The Home holds regular trips to various places of interest and have recently visited a Watford FC game, a canal boat trip as well as various musical entertainment which is held in the grounds or in the main lounge area dependant of the weather.

Well done Simon, Lynn and  Freddie – keep up the good work!

If anyone else feels that they could give up some of their time to volunteer, then please contact Simon on 07763 435414
