Elstow Recognise “Long Distance” Syd’s Forty Masonic Years

There was a surprise item under AOB at the Elstow Lodge No 8759 regular meeting this week, when Jon Huckle invited Clive Walsh, the Deputy Provincial Grand Master in Charge, to present Syd Pye, currently Lodge Chaplain and Assistant Secretary, with a gift on behalf of the members, recognising his 40 years in Freemasonry, as well as his significant service to the Lodge.

Syd joined Freemasonry in late 1983 and became a Master Mason in London at Paxton Lodge No 1686, 40 years ago, in January 1984. Having joined Elstow Lodge in 2007, he quickly became Master of the Lodge and subsequently served as Secretary for nine years, before relocating to Yorkshire.

Despite the long commute south and joining a Lodge and Chapter near his new home, Syd has maintained his Elstow and Paxton Memberships, as well as Chapter and Rose Croix in Bedfordshire, his regular attendance only impacted by the recent train strikes.
