Cheque Presentation and Beating Retreat at DMRC Stanford Hall

Anna Baker Cresswell, founder and Executive Director of the charity HighGround, hosted the Provincial Grand Master for Bedfordshire Tony Henderson along with Steve Attwood and David Hargreaves at the DMRC (Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre), Stanford Hall on Thursday 6th July when they visited to present her with a cheque.

The Commanding Officer of DMRC Stanford Hall, Group Captain Chris Rowley, graciously invited everyone to Beating Retreat, a very special occasion where the Guest of Honour was Air Marshal CS Walton, 4 days into her new job as Director General Defence Medical Services. The weather was perfect for The Red Devils display and the Band of the Brigade of Gurkhas topped the Sunset Ceremony. All in all an unforgettable day.

Bedfordshire Freemasons donated £2,350.00 which will fund one serviceman to undergo a rehab program assisting in the specially adapted garden that HighGround have built and funded through donations at the DMRC. The donation will also enable the purchasing of equipment and further development of the garden.

HighGround helps Service Leavers, Reservists and Veterans to work out what military skills and experience they have, how they might complement work in the land-based sector and how to access the many opportunities it offers for employment and self-employment.

This donation reinforces Bedfordshire Freemasons’ commitment to the Armed Forces covenant, which the Province signed early last year, in assisting injured serving personnel and veterans to find valuable and enjoyable careers after leaving the forces.
