Worshipful Brother George Christopher Souter

Dear Brethren,

It is with sadness that I inform you of the sad passing to the Grand Lodge above Worshipful Brother and E Comp George Christopher Souter on 9th of February 2026 (92).

George was initiated on the 6th of February 1968 and amazingly served Freemasonry in three Provinces, totalling 58 years in craft and 54 years in Royal Arch Chapter.

Most of George’s freemasonry was in Hertfordshire, Middlesex, and Buckinghamshire and later in Bedfordshire when Panmure Chapter C715 was moved from London to our province in 2001.

George was very instrumental in this process being Scribe E for more than 17 years. He was elected an Honorary member of Panmure Chapter and was a regular attender up to his passing.

George was a subscribing Craft member in Ansgar Lodge L5304 (Middx). Middlesex Masters L3420 (Middx). Middlesex Masters (Uxbridge) L9292 (Middx). Hertfordshire Masters L4090 (Herts). Penn & Tylers Green Lodge L5876 (Bucks)

He was also a subscribing member in Middlesex First Principals (Middx) C3420.

George was Assistant Provincial Grand Master in Middlesex 2001 – 2007 and PProvSGD Herts in 1991 – 1992, and appointed to Grand Rank, PSGD in 2002.

In the Royal Arch he held office as PProvGSN (Middx) 2004 – 2015,  and in 2005  he was appointed to PGStdB in Supreme Grand Chapter.

George was very well-respected Freemason and man; he will be sorely missed by all those that knew him. He had been diagnosed with Cancer of which he endured bravely but sadly lost the fight at home in Eaton Bray with his daughter Debbie by his side.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this very sad time. I will arrange a condolences card to the family on behalf of yourself and the province.
