The Earl of Courtown Entertain Prince Michael of Kent Residents Again.

The Earl of Courtown Lodge No 7653 continued their sponsorship of entertainment at the Prince Michael of Kent Care Home last Sunday.

The residents were treated to 90 minutes of songs and sing-alongs from Shows, Country & Western, the Sixties and Seventies all sung by the wonderful Eleanor and interspersed with copious amounts of tea, coffee and cake.

Simon Barter and his wife, Lynn, accompanied by their ever-popular companion dog, Freddie, were volunteering that afternoon and were glad to introduce the singer to the audience who really value the support of the Earl of Courtown Lodge.

The music plays a major part in the lives of dementia patients, of whom there are an increasing number, and it has been shown that it is one of the last vestiges of recognition to be lost.

Simon told us, “It is wonderful to see people who have lost the ability to communicate verbally, recognise tunes from years ago, and start to sing along. The assistance of Freddie, our companion dog, also breaks down barriers with Residents keen to have cuddles and reminisce about their own pets from the past. This brings a real comfort to those who are isolated and worried about their health.”

The Lodge have two further Residents events planned soon. Another musical afternoon on 7th April and the Annual Canal Boat Trip with a fish and chip lunch on 17th May.
