Iain Thompson and a visit to no.10!

Armed Forces Week is an annual celebration held each year to recognise and give thanks for the dedication and service of our Armed Forces. Events across the UK are held to show support for both current and former service personnel. Since 2018, the Prime Minister has personally endorsed the Civil Service Armed Forces Week Reception, which acknowledges and thanks Civil Servants who serve or have served in the Armed Forces, particularly as Reservists.

To mark Armed Forces Week this year, the Minister for Veterans and People, Alistair Carns, hosted the Armed Forces Week Civil Service Armed Forces Network Employee Recognition Breakfast at 10 Downing Street on 25 June 2025. The event was a resounding success, with strong representation from Reservists and Veterans across the Civil Service, as well as departmental Armed Forces Champions and community members — including a notable presence from the National Crime Agency.

Among the attendees was Iain Thompson from Lovells Bury Lodge 4018, who thoroughly enjoyed the experience. From bottomless coffee and ginger-apple shots to a variety of breakfast sandwiches, Iain appreciated both the refreshments and the unique opportunity to engage with fellow Veterans, Reservists, and senior civil and military leaders, including Minister Carns, in the historic Rose Garden at 10 Downing Street.

Iain expressed his deep gratitude for being selected to attend this prestigious occasion and thoroughly enjoyed the chance to celebrate the contributions of Armed Forces personnel within the Civil Service.
