An Excellent Evening at The Elstow 2025 Lecture
There was a great attendance at this year’s Elstow Lodge Lecture, which was held at the Ampthill Masonic Centre last week.
The lecture, given by Ian Church, our Assistant Provincial Secretary and an enthusiastic member of The Victorian Military Society, proved to be a very engaging talk about ‘Melvill and Coghill, Two Brave Freemasons’ who gave their lives defending the Queen’s Colours at the Battle of Isandlwana and also covered the methods, skills and bravery of the Zulu warriors who were defending their land and honour.
The lecture was wonderfully supplemented and illustrated with artifacts and weapons from the Zulu wars, all of which made for a very informative and thought-provoking evening.
The Elstow Lecture is an annual event, held in February or March, which had fallen off the radar in recent years but is now firmly back in the calendar. If you have a favourite subject or special interest that you would like to share with the Bedfordshire Brethren please email secretary8759@gmail.com and you could be presenting in 2026.
