A Father and Son United in Masonry: An Extraordinary Installation at Mercury Lodge

The Installation of a new Master is always a memorable occasion. When it becomes a father-and-son affair, the event takes on an even deeper significance. But to witness an 85-year-old Brother being installed by his son is truly extraordinary — a moment of privilege, pride, and heartfelt emotion.

Over 60 Brethren from Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, and beyond gathered at The Keep on Saturday evening to witness Robin “Pops” Reynolds being installed as Master of Mercury Lodge No. 7289 by his son, Richard.

In the presence of the newly appointed Provincial Senior Warden, John Morrow —representing the Provincial Grand Master — and many other distinguished Brethren, Richard led his father through a touching and well conducted ceremony, before placing him with pride, firmly, in Solomon’s Chair.

The Festive Board that followed was equally moving. Richard gave the toast to the new Master, celebrating their shared Masonic journey, expressing admiration for his father’s unwavering commitment, attitude, and dedication, and offering heartfelt thanks for the tremendous support received from all present.

It was a night that truly captured the spirit of Freemasonry—brotherhood, family, and tradition—brought together in one unforgettable evening.
