The Story of the Victoria Cross

As announced in today’s First Rising, UGLE are delighted Mark Smith will be presenting the third episode in the UGLE Webinar Series at 7.30pm on 4th November.

Mark Smith is a military museum curator and specialist in military medals. He has appeared on the Antiques Roadshow since 2014 and has valued many rare items, including a large collection of World War One German memorabilia at Walthamstow town hall and a toy panda mascot that flew on the famous “Dambusters Raid” in 1943 when the Roadshow visited RAF Coningsby.

In this presentation, Mark will present on the Victoria Cross. The Victoria Cross is one of the highest awards a British soldier can receive. It requires an act of extreme bravery in the presence of the enemy, and has achieved almost mythical status, with recipients often revered as heroes.
