The Pines, Australia, Travelling Gavel Arrives at Ivel Lodge!
On Monday 8th June, nine members of Ivel Lodge No. 6846 visited Hitchin Lodge No. 6561 at their June meeting held at The Cloisters, Letchworth, to be presented with a much journeyed Travelling Gavel.
The Pines Travelling Gavel originated in Queensland, Australia, with Pines Lodge who sadly closed in June 2015.
Whilst the early history of the travels of the gavel are somewhat “incomplete”, records show that it was rescued from East Barnet Lodge No. 6259 by Fulcorn Lodge No 4791 on 26 May 2011.
Fulcorn Lodge having acquired the gavel undertook to allow it to continue its many travels thus maintaining a passport recording its journey between Lodges.
During the meeting, Kevin Edwards, Master of Ivel Lodge, formally accepted the Travelling Gavel from Dan Styles, Master of Hitchin Lodge.
The presentation was later celebrated again in a more informal manner during the Festive Board.
Representing Ivel Lodge were Kevin Edwards, Rob Inskip, Mike O’Keefe, John Hodgson, Tim King, together with Craig Deans, Rob Wendon, Simon Quambro and Simon Smith.

Ivel Lodge will now hold the Travelling Gavel for the foreseeable future before arranging for it to continue its journey to a Lodge beyond the Province!
