Simon Barter, Elected Chairman of the Rugby Lodges Association
As signatories to The Association of Rugby Lodges constitution, which was formed and formally recognised in September 2023, Bedfordshire’s Roger De Somery Rugby Lodge No 6488 members were thrilled when Bedfordshire & Lodge stalwart, Simon Barter, was recently elected as Chairman for the coming year.
Simon said “I’m delighted to be elected as Chairman of The Association of Rugby Lodges. I’m looking forward to the challenge, working with the team and promoting the aims of the Association.”
The Association support development of Rugby Lodges by growing links with local Rugby Clubs and helping raise money for Rugby linked Charities as well as the Masonic Charities that we all support. They currently have 18 member lodges with a 19th soon to be consecrated in North Wales.
The Association are keen to hold one big national meeting every year to celebrate the Rugby Theme and tentative plans in place to do a British Lions themed meeting in London next year, hosted by Roger De Somery Rugby Lodge.
Locally, Roger De Somery Rugby Lodge have got off to a flying start. They are sponsoring the Matchday Balls at Luton RFC 7th September game, where Simon will give a pre-match talk. They have also visited Rugby Lodges in Oxfordshire, Northants and London.
If you share their love of “Funny Shape Balls”, the members of Lodge 6488 are sure to give you a warm welcome at any of their meetings which are held at Bowling Green Lane on Saturdays.
