Commander Jonty Powis Engages The Martin Foss Lodge.

The Martin Foss Lodge of Research were delighted to host Commander Jonty Powis at The Keep, last week, at a specially arranged “White Table” evening where he gave a thoroughly interesting talk about his career as a sub-mariner, and more specifically his role as navigator on HMS Conqueror, the submarine that tracked and sank Argentine warship, the Belgrano, during the Falklands war.

The audience of eighty, made up of members, their family, friends & guests were taken through the buildup and aftermath of that historic event and it was evident from the following Q & A session that many memories of that period had been brought back to mind.

The evening was rounded off with a very convivial meal, traditional Masonic raffle and a charity auction, which included a limited edition print of HMS Conqueror, sighed by Commander Powis. In appreciation of his excellent talk, the £1000 raised was presented to Jonty, for him to donate to The Sea Cadets, an organisation very close to his heart.

Jonty can be seen below with Lodge Master, Chris Noble and also with Tom Trowles, whose generosity secured the limited addition print.
