The Great War Experience

Brethren and guests, headed by the Provincial Grand Master and his Deputy, stepped back in time to experience life in the Great War at the Ampthill Masonic Centre on Saturday. The evening began with displays of kit and equipment. Followed by presentations on recruitment, training, food, medical, remembrance and the life of an infantryman at the Western Front.

A dinner of typical WW1 fare was enjoyed by all and then a rousing singsong of period songs and poems. There was even a guest appearance from the Mad Butcher. The evening concluded with two minutes silence and guest bandsman Harman playing the last post. This begins the run up to the Provincial guided coach tour of the battlefields of Arras, Ypres, the Somme and stepping back to Waterloo from 22 – 25th May 2023. More details on ‘Taking the King’s shilling’ to follow shortly.
