Bedfordshire’s Oldest Lodge Installs New Master

The installation meeting of Bedfordshire Lodge of St John the Baptist No. 475, the Province’s oldest lodge, was well attended and supported by Assistant Provincial Grand Master Steve Attwood and his escort team, impressively led by Phillip Turner.

The meeting saw Krishan Tailor, supported by members of Chiltern Lodge and Old Lutonian’s Lodge, install his successor, Shyam Patel, as Master in “firm” and confident fashion.

From that moment, Shyam took the lead with considerable confidence, delivering his work faultlessly as Master. Steve Attwood later commented on how the new Master’s performance appeared to inspire the lodge’s Light Blues, who provided excellent ceremonial support throughout the meeting.

The lodge also welcomed a special visitor, Marc Gillings of Swan of Avon Lodge No. 2133, in Warwickshire. Marc has set himself the impressive challenge of visiting the oldest lodge in every Province. As part of his visit, he presented Shyam with a Warwickshire tie, while Marc himself received a Bedfordshire tie in return. The lodge wished him every success as he continues his ambitious journey.

With the formal business concluded, members and visitors retired to enjoy the customary refreshments and convivial dining.

With both a joining member and a prospective initiate proposed, the coming year looks set to be a busy and promising one for the new Master and Bedfordshire Lodge of St John the Baptist No. 475.
