A Great Widows Sons Weekend

Beda Chapter hosted the Widows Sons Lodge No. 10011 at the Cross Keys in Pulloxhill over the Bank Holiday Weekend. The lodge is a travelling lodge with its home province being Yorkshire & North East Ridings. Membership is formed of existing Master Masons around the country who are members of the Widows Sons Masonic Bikers Association (WSMBA).

In excess of 100 people (masons, their partners, children and friends) camped over the weekend in the grounds of the pub and on Saturday Beda Chapter President Bro Jeff Boote presented Ian Hunt, the Chairman of SERV Herts and Beds (Blood Bikes) with a £1,000 donation.

Over 30 bikes then enjoyed a tour of Bedfordshire lead by Bro Jay Rickells and refreshed at the ‘Walkin at Deepdale’ café on the edge of Potton (well worth a visit).

The Lodge tyled at 2.30pm in the Marquee in the grounds of the pub with over 60 masons in attendance. A letter from the Prov G Master R/W Bro Tony Henderson was read, who wished the lodge well for the meeting while expressing his regret at being unable to attend as he was on holiday.

Following lodge business W/Bro Martin Howell gave a great talk about his experiences during the Falklands war which was very well received.

A BBQ followed with plenty of merriment in true Widows Sons style!

The weekend raised another £1,100 which was supported by the generosity of Paul (landlord of the Cross Keys) who waived the camping fees for the weekend.

The final campers left the site on Monday. A great weekend with great people.
