Rain Stops Play but Doesn’t Dampen the Spirits of Roger De Somery
The Roger de Somery Rugby Lodge No 6488 were treated to an excellent talk by the Mike Freely, Senior Grand Warden of the Province, at their meeting last Saturday.
Without a ceremony to perform the Lodge approached Mike and asked him to deliver his talk on Mithraism and its links and relationship to modern day Speculative Freemasonry. The Brethren were treated to a fascinating presentation outlining the remarkable parallels between this ancient mysterious rite and the Freemasonry that we love today.
Mithraism was practiced mainly by the Roman soldiers and has many similarities in the symbolism that is used, the way Temples are laid out and the structured path of advancement in knowledge taken to become Masters.
After a fun filled Festive Board, plans to watch the local derby between Old Dunstablians and Luton were scuppered when the game was called off due to the excessive rain and a flooded pitch. With a break in the Six-Nations and no Premiership game on TV, everyone had to resort to an extended afternoon in the bar, enjoying good company.
