Worshipful Brother Ian Donald Murdoch

Dear Brethren,

It is with sadness that I inform you of the passing to the Grand Lodge above Worshipful Brother and Comp Ian Donald Murdoch PProvJGW on 11th of November 2025 (93).

Sadly, we have only just been advised his passing, however I am aware that members of Ampthill lodge attended W. Bro Ian’s funeral.

Ian was initiated on the 4th of October 1961 in Royal Standard Lodge L1298 (London) and was installed as Master in 1975.

In 1976 Ian became a joining member of Ampthill Lodge L9108 becoming Master in 2000 and then serving as Almoner from 2001-2009.  He was elected an Honorary member in 2022.

Ian was Exalted into Ampthill Chapter C2490 on the 20th of May 1991, resigning in 2017.

He was also a member of Rose Croix Masonry, Past Sovereign of Ampthill Chapter RC281 and Beds & Herts Chapter RC943

Ian’s first Provincial appointment  came in 2005 to PProvJGD, then further promotions followed, in 2011 to PProvGSuptWks and in 2018 to PProvJGW.  

Ian served Freemasonry for an amazing 64 years in the craft and Royal Arch Chapter 34 years.

Bro Ian had been for several years suffering with his health but always managed to keep a good sense of humour during difficult times. Unfortunately, he was unable to attend lodge meeting in the latter years. He passed peacefully with his wife Jan and family by his side.
